On Monday, a construction company was working in Morrill in an alley near Jirdon Avenue when a gas line was hit. Personnel in the immediate area were asked to evacuate, and no further traffic was heard on this incident.
As part of an ongoing effort to improve the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the electric system, the City of Alliance Electric Department is beginning to work to replace streetlight poles and fixtures along West 3rd Street. Work will begin east of Black Hills Avenue and progress eastward along West 3rd. The first phase of the project will involve removing two existing wooden poles and their streetlights on the north side of West 3rd Street. Concrete footings will then be installed to support the new breakaway bases. Once the concrete has had adequate time to cure, crews will return to install the new bases, poles, and LED lights. Work will continue eastward with the existing streetlight poles on the north side of West 3rd Street being replaced as the project progresses. The Alliance Electric Department appreciates the community's patience and cooperation as this important improvement project moves forward.
