A 13-year-old boy was injured Tuesday after being struck by a vehicle while crossing East 20th Street at 3rd Avenue in Scotts Bluff. The juvenile was transported by ambulance to Regional West Medical Center for treatment, and about 15 minutes later, officers located the Kia and stopped it in the 1900 block of Avenue K. The driver, identified as 18-year-old Daneah Gomez-Vallejo of Scottsbluff, was arrested following an investigation and booked into the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center on a felony charge of leaving the scene of an injury accident.

Yesterday afternoon, after 4 p.m., scanner traffic indicated a car versus pedestrian accident with a youth involved and a leg injury. The location was 20th Street and 3rd Avenue in Scottsbuff.  A 13-year-old boy was injured Tuesday after being struck by a vehicle while crossing East 20th Street at 3rd Avenue in Scottsbluff. Officers were dispatched to the area following a report of the vehicle striking a juvenile pedestrian. The vehicle, described as a silver four-door Kia, left the scene before officers arrived.  The juvenile was transported by ambulance to Regional West Medical Center for treatment, and about 15 minutes later, officers located the Kia and stopped it in the 1900 block of Avenue K. On Monday, a construction company was working in Morrill in an alley near Jirdon Avenue when a gas line was hit. Personnel in the immediate area were asked to evacuate, and no further traffic was heard on this incident.
 
As part of an ongoing effort to improve the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the electric system, the City of Alliance Electric Department is beginning to work to replace streetlight poles and fixtures along West 3rd Street. Work will begin east of Black Hills Avenue and progress eastward along West 3rd. The first phase of the project will involve removing two existing wooden poles and their streetlights on the north side of West 3rd Street. Concrete footings will then be installed to support the new breakaway bases. Once the concrete has had adequate time to cure, crews will return to install the new bases, poles, and LED lights. Work will continue eastward with the existing streetlight poles on the north side of West 3rd Street being replaced as the project progresses. The Alliance Electric Department appreciates the community's patience and cooperation as this important improvement project moves forward.

On Saturday, around 6 p.m., Scanner followers reported a hay bale fire on County Road 8 near Morrill, Nebraska.
 
An evacuation order was put out for the Moonshine Fire area that's near Wheatland, Wyoming. The fire has now consumed over 7,000 acres. Please see our page for the evacuation area.

An Alliance woman was arrested Wednesday after fleeing from police during a vehicle pursuit that ended with four children inside the vehicle, according to the Police Department in Alliance. Officers were initially called to the Dollar General at 1229 West 3rd Street at approximately 6.30 p.m. on the 9th for a reported disturbance, while officers were investigating, the vehicle involved returned to the area.
 
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle using emergency lights and verbal commands, but the driver fled. Officers later located the vehicle traveling eastbound on West 3rd Street and attempted another traffic stop. The driver again failed to stop, prompting a pursuit.
 
Reaching 55 miles an hour before pulling into a driveway in the 600 block of Sweetwater Avenue, officers conducted a felony traffic stop and arrested the 24-year-old Lylian Rose Star of Alliance. Four children ages 9, 9, 8, and less than a year were found inside the vehicle. She was booked on suspicion of four counts of felony intentional child abuse with no injury, felony operation of a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, four counts of transporting a child while intoxicated, DUI, resisting arrest, driving while revoked, reckless driving, and unlawful acts related to drugs.
 
Chief Leavitt said this incident could have ended very differently. "Driving impaired is dangerous under any circumstances." All persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

A missing juvenile has been reported out of Scottsbluff. Nathaniel Alan Williams, 16-year-old white male, 5'8", 140 pounds, brown hair, and was wearing black sweats and black shoes, and a polo shirt. Nathaniel Alan Williams, 16 years old, missing in Scottsbluff.
 
Last night around 5 p.m., south of Sidney, a 10-34 or verbal disturbance or altercation was reported by On-Star. That was mile marker 3, Highway 19, and they were eventually found in the Safeway parking lot in Sidney. The next traffic we heard was, "County has one female, 10-15", or under arrest.
 
There was a serious-looking accident in Scott's Bluff on 42nd Street and Avenue I, just after 3 p.m. yesterday. Two Hispanic male patients reported that their vehicle rolled four or five times after a lady pulled out in front of them from a stop sign. The accident happened at highway speeds. Three patients were transported, including the two Hispanic males and the other patient, an elderly female with neck pain.
 
A possible assault was reported late Tuesday night, just before midnight, in Scottsbluff. An intoxicated male from Avenue B reported being knocked out by an unknown assailant. No further traffic was heard on this incident.

71-year-old Kenneth Holloway is still missing. (UPDATE: FOUND) The Scotts Bluff Police Department, the CERT team, and four canine search and rescue teams are currently out near Five Rocks Road and Stable Club Road. Last night they were searching, and they'll be out again this morning. We appreciate the willingness of community members to form their own search parties, however, the police ask citizens currently to stay out of the way to allow the canine teams and trained search and rescue personnel the best opportunity to locate Mr. Holloway. Mr. Holloway was last seen near Avenue I and Beltline at 9.23 p.m. on Sunday, September 6th. He was seen walking, wearing dark-colored athletic pants and a dark-colored long-sleeved jacket. Mr. Holloway is 71 years old, approximately 5'11 and around 300 pounds. He's a white male with gray hair, gray facial hair, green eyes, and lives in the area of the 2900 block of Avenue H. See Panhandle Scanner on Facebook for current information.
 
And last night, scanner traffic indicated a missing juvenile. Nathaniel is a 16-year-old white male. At the time of his disappearance, he was 5'8 and weighed 140 pounds. He has brown hair and was wearing black sweats. That's the information we have that was read over a bulletin by the Scottsbluff Police Department. If you know anything about a Nathaniel who's 16 who's on the run or missing right now, please contact authorities.

The region faced heightened anxiety as the National Weather Service and the Storm Prediction Center placed a large swath of western Nebraska under severe weather risks. Forecasters warned of a slow-moving cold front capable of producing 60 to 70 mph winds, large hail, and localized flash flooding. While the Panhandle prepared for isolated thunderstorms, an actual touchdown of a tornado materialized east of us between Gross and Spencer in Boyd County, and in Chadron, extreme late summer heat across the Panhandle culminated in volatile conditions. A lightning strike sparked a new wildfire near Chadron.
 
In crime news, a Gordon man facing multiple counts of child sexual assault was formally sentenced in a Panhandle court.
 
In sports news, that highly anticipated Husker volleyball match at Wrigley Field was unexpectedly suspended due to unsafe, slippery court conditions on the field. 
 
Freshman running back Jamal Rule was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week following a standout performance in the Husker victory. Rule had only 15 carries, but ran for 122 yards and 2 touchdowns. While the passing game was also productive with 275 yards in the air and 3 touchdowns. Congratulations to the Huskers on the 49-21 victory.

Yesterday, scanner traffic indicated that Nebraska State Patrol was out with Alliance Police Department on Highway 2 around mile marker 82 doing a probable cause search on multiple individuals. Many times we don't hear the result of the initial scanner traffic, so be sure to check our public record every day, Monday through Friday, when available.
 
Last night, scanner traffic indicated a possible gas leak on 7th Street in Gearing, and a missing endangered advisory came out of Fort Morgan, Colorado. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation has issued an endangered missing alert for Vera Spencer, a four-year-old. The suspect is Daniel Spencer, 50, her non-custodial father. Vera was last seen being picked up from her school in Brighton, Colorado on August 28. Vera is 4 years old, 3 feet 5 inches tall, and weighs around 40 pounds. She has blonde hair and brown eyes. Daniel, 50, is 6 feet tall, weighs 170 pounds, and has brown hair and hazel eyes. They may be driving a silver-colored Pontiac Bonneville, possibly a black 2016 Dodge Ram truck.
