Our on-scene reporters are geared with cameras and gps trackers, so we know where they are at all times. Please do not make the mistake of false reporting 'the scanner' for interfering with an official, active scene. The people that show up at the scene ARE NOT officially associated with us. We have ONE official reporter, 'Wildcat1' at this time.
The false accusations against 'the scanner' need to stop if the community wants our continued coverage. We have multiple other businesses that we could focus on our attention on. Be grateful that we are covering the news for the community.
Some examples of false accusations;
EXAMPLE from years ago : Scanner Traffic indicated a Hot Air Balloon in the River... which ACTUALLY was a homeless tent. Within minutes of our post, a coordinator from the Balloon races advised us that they did not have any balloons go down. We updated the post and at the same time, the officer confirmed this by physically visiting the location (near the YMCA).
Another EXAMPLE : Scanner Traffic indicated a shooter at the school, so we delayed 20 minutes before confirming that police were on campus looking for a shooter. We continued to listen to the police clear the buildings one by one and we were the first to report the all clear had been given. That is perfect reporting, however, the Haters foolishly claimed, 'YOU SAID there was a shooter. Scanner said there was a shooter, that is fake news...."
Fire Call EXAMPLE : Scanner Traffic indicated a report of an Oxygen Tank Explosion with a man on fire. The report came from one address which was given over the scanner, but the incident happened across the street at a different address. The final report was that it was initially an intentional gas explosion involving murder. Two separate pieces of preliminary information that are given that some people will label as false, rather than fluid and ever changing, as is the case in all live scanner traffic.
